About Us

Our Pastor

Jerry Stepp

Lead Pastor

My name is Pastor Jerry Stepp. Born March 1971. Married to my bride and best friend Rhonda since 1989. I was Eternally saved June 1st 1986. Called to preach in 1992, and became a Pastor in 2001. We were introduced to our church family through a mutual friend who had stated that First Baptist needed pulpit supply. Pastor Bill Barrow had become very sickly and was unable to Minister from time to time. God had to work all this out,"my intentions were leading me to South Carolina". Unfortunately, during this time Pastor Bill passed away and we continued to fill the pulpit from time to time and help them in any way we possibly could. It was on the drive home from SC that the Lord prepared my heart to Pastor First Baptist (14 hours of open road will give you all the time you need to hear from The Lord Jesus Christ). Upon getting home I called the Pulpit committee to see if the position was still open and they said yes. Just a few weeks later we were 100% voted in as the Pastor and we took the position as Full time Pastor January 2016. We are so blessed by the hand of God to be here at First Baptist, as well as the abundant kindnesses of our members. They have welcomed Rhonda and I in with open arms. We look forward to the years ahead as to what the Lord will do! In the mean time, we are Trusting and Obeying, because there is no other way. Pastor Jerry & Rhonda Stepp

My parents were born again Believers which meant I was in Sunday school and church from very early age. We went to New Hope in Gary, In then to First Baptist in New Chicago, In. We also attended Coxton Baptist in Ky.

I was saved when I was 12 in Coxton,KY.  It was at vacation bible school. I knew then I wanted to give my life to the Lord. I was also baptized  there. I have been in church ever since. Proudly serving in our church clothing room.

Perry & Kim Gamble

We're lifelong members of the First Baptist Church of New Chicago. We love our Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ, our church & church family. It has been my privilege to serve the Lord the past 18 years as the Church Secretary.

We thank God for all the many blessings in our lives & look forward to his return. While we wait for his glorious appearing, we pray that many souls will come to know him as their personal Saviour.

I have been with FBCNC for 46 years. I was born into and raised in this church and I was saved and became a follower of Jesus at 9 years old in the Junior Church. I raised my family here, my girls were baptized here, married here and they were active in our church until they met their husbands and now they are active in their churches. My oldest is a missionary overseas with her husband and my grandson. In Gods perfect timing my cousin Judy had a calling to start a program for our seniors and she asked me to help her. For a few years I got to be a part of that and I am so grateful for what I think was the opening to really begin to serve in the church. I now help out in our sound booth on some Sundays and at our Wednesday night bible study.

A few years ago Pastor asked me if I would be interested in starting a women’s retreat. After praying and enlisting the help of my dear friends and daughter, Paula, Rhonda, Kristen, Amber and Lilly, we are now on our third year of teaching and showing Jesus! We meet new women from different churches every year and it is such a blessing! I am so thankful to Jesus for making FBCNC my home and for the amazing people I get to call my church family!

I have attended services at our church since I've in the sixth grade. Our former pastor, Rev. Bob Lamb, explained God‘s plan of salvation to me when I was 16 years old and led me to the saving knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. Rev. Lamb encouraged me to become involved in every part of our church, and I did! It endeared New Chicago Baptist Church to me and it continues to hold a very special part of my heart. Growing up in our church I was blessed to have many wonderful Sunday School teachers who instilled in me a deep and abiding love for the Bible and its many wonderful stories. In my teens, I was blessed to be given the opportunity to share these amazing stories with a Sunday school class of my own!

After all these years I am still blessed with the opportunity of teaching a Sunday school class as I have continued to“tell the old, old story of Jesus and his love!” God’s word is ever fresh and ever new and its stories remain exciting! I love and adore the children in our class and I am so grateful for my faithful helper, Rhonda Stepp!  Many years ago, God placed a desire in my heart to do something special for the seniors in our church. After much prayer, a plan developed for a monthly fellowship with a good lunch, friendships, games, prayers and devotions. I am so thankful to Vicki Kennedy who worked along side me to put the fellowships together for the first few years. Also, I am thankful for the many workers and helpers, who gave out their time and talents in making the fellowship fun and successful. God blessed us with being able to support missionaries to the Lakota Nation Indian Reservation in Pine Ridge, South Dakota, and to bless others through a shoebox ministry. Through the years, we have lost so many of our beloved seniors and no longer have a monthly meeting. We still try to keep our seniors engaged with friends and fellowship with lunch at area restaurants each month!

My husband, James, and I count it a privilege and a blessing to have the opportunity of serving God by working in and around the church, wherever needed, and to be of help to our beloved House of Worship!

I grew up in the church, so faith in the Lord is something that has been important to me as long as I can remember. It wasn't until I got to high school that I started to think about my own Salvation and take being a Christian more seriously. Although I've always believed in God, I officially got saved as a sophomore in high school.

As I went through high school and into my college days, it became clear to me that I was put on this Earth by God to help people. More specifically, teach people. I know how rough things can be for kids going through junior high and high school, and I know that having a firm foundation of faith can make all the difference. Because of this, I want to bring young adults and teens closer to God and help them like I have been helped. I teach the youth from ages 12-18

I am married to David and we have a son William. I accepted Christ as my Saviour at the age of 12 while attending a Monday evening youth group ran by Betsy Shadley.  Brother Jim Halcomb was a guest speaker that night and led me to the Lord in class room of our church on October 25, 1994.

I began occasionally filling in for both piano and organ when I was in high school and currently plays piano at our services and I started playing the piano at church at the age of 5.

Beth & Mike Dahlgren

My Name is Beth and I am member of the First Baptist Church in New Chicago, Indiana. I am proud to say I am a born again Christian. I was saved by Jesus on a Wednesday night service. A very dear friend named Julia Warwick showed me the scriptures in the Bible for salvation and I asked Jesus to come into my heart and save my soul. At the church I help with decorating at holiday and seasonal times. I want to do this to show honor and reverence to our Lord.

I am also helper with our youth groups teaching them about the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Lord has laid these responsibilities on my heart and I try to do them to the best of my abilities. I love to see the end products of our decorating and our young children enjoying being at church and learning about Jesus. Our ultimate goal is to see these children accept The Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour.

My name is Mike and I am an active member of the First Baptist Church of New Chicago where I gave my heart to the Lord. It was a Sunday service with Pastor Brother Bill Barrow preaching when I accepted Jesus as my one and only Saviour! I followed in baptism shortly after. I accepted the duty of taking care of the sound systems, video equipment for the church, and I am also the back up song leader.

My love for music goes back to when I was a child. In my 20's I started to sing and my favorite music is a good old fashion Gospel harmony! I sing for the Lord and do what

He leads me to do to the best of my abilities. I also have a construction back ground which allows me to help at the church with projects The latest one is the new small building on

the property that we decorate as an out reach to our community in an effort to grow our church congregation.
